Spider Pizza Bites

Spider Pizza Bites are simple Halloween-themed appetizers great for both adults and kids.Requires very little ingredients & quick!

I am not much of a Halloween person but I do enjoy the creative food, DIYs, and decor everyone does around this time of the year. My first and only Jack O’ Lantern was 5 years ago but this year, I am debating if I should do it again just for fun. There has been some talks about going to a haunted house too. Sounds like we are slowly warming up to Halloween festivities this year, so naturally Spider Pizza Bites were born. These pizza bites are probably the simplest appetizers that speaks Halloween and are great for parties for both adults and kids. I tested Spider Pizza Bites couple of times so you will find few notes and helpful tips, including a gluten-free/low-carb option.

Spider Pizza Bites calls for very few ingredients : base such as pizza dough, pita or naan, tortilla // tomato sauce, pesto, or whatever you like as your pizza sauce // shredded cheese such as mozzarella, provolone, or cheddar // and whole olives.

You simply cut out your base, spread some sauce, and top it with cheese and bake until the cheese melts..YES, it’s that easy!

I think the most tedious part of making Spider Pizza Bites are those dang olive spiders. It’s not horrible I promise. It’s just a tad bit meticulous process where you have to slice whole olives into spiders look-alike. They look like spiders right? Please tell me they do…The boyfriend told me they look like  old men with a belly.

And for my gluten-free friends, you can most definitely use gluten-free base of your choice. And for those of you, you are really keen on getting vegetables, or want a low-carb option I found that eggplant works as a nice base! See recipe notes for more instructions on how to use eggplant as a base.

I think zucchini rounds and cauliflower crust will work here too. If you end up trying it, I’d love to know!

Few tips before  you make Spider Pizza Bites:

  • be gentle with tomato sauce because the crust can get soggy if you use too much
  • if using vegetables as your crust, make sure they are roasted first (see notes)
  • use cheese that melts easily and stay away from feta or hard goat cheese
  • put olive spiders are the end as a topping instead of baking with it
  • bake spider pizza bites right before serving

I’d love to see you guys create your Spider Pizza Bites this Halloween with your loved ones. If you do, please tag @foodpleasurehealth on instagram.

I don’t know if there is a recipe per say as I have told you most everything above but for the purpose of SEO and all that jazz, here is a rough guideline.
