Grape Plum Granita

Few weeks ago, some lovely folks over at Welch’s Juice sent me coupons for their 100% grape juice (and also a chance to participate in a competition which I missed). Since we are almost officially in Summer, I wanted to do some sort of frozen, refreshing treat. Enter granita, semi frozen Italian dessert with fruit (or flavorings) & sugar syrup, but in this case, I used 100% concord grape juice along with seasonal plums and mint. I love how there is no cooking involved and everything is pureed in a blender, frozen and enjoyed by everyone.

The base of grape plum granita is 100% Welch’s concord grape juice (which eliminates the need for sugar syrup), plums and mint for a refreshing touch to the granita.

Since I am not much of a juice drinker (unless it comes from my own juicer). I do not know all the different possibilities with these juices (here is a whole recipe page dedicated to it).  Whole fruits are certainly best (hello fiber) but if you choose to drink juice, do so occasionally and always choose 100% fruit juice.

Since plums are popping all over the market now, I thought it would pair nicely with grapes and I loved the sweet yet little tart undertone from this combination. I blended everything together and poured it directly into a glass container but I suggest taking an extra step to strain the mixture. If you are looking for a simple frozen treat or something to do with your kids, grape plum granita is where it’s at. Enjoy!
